Technical standards

Learn how to find, understand, and access technical standards in our library and beyond

Most of the technical standards in our collection are available electronically, with only a small number of print copies. Historical print standards are also held, but they are often of limited practical use as they are superseded by more contemporary versions.

Search approach

Some standards, especially those from the IEEE, can be found at the title-level in Omni (the library's catalogue), but this is not always reliable as technical standards do not have the best title-level cataloguing metadata.

  1. First, try searching Omni for the technical standard by title or standard designation.
  2. Second, identify the issuing standards developing organization (SDO), and search by SDO package below

For assistance in searching for standards, please don't hesitate to contact us for research help.

Standards packages available in our collection

The Leddy Library licenses some comprehensive packages of technical standards from SDOs, which are listed below. However, packages are often cost-prohibitive, so we don't have packages from all SDOs. In these cases, we license technical standards on an ad-hoc basis (see bottom section of this page).

Expanded access pilot program

Leddy Library is joining a national pilot with ASTM to expand access to technical standards from other SDOs via ASTM Compass. The pilot includes UNE-adopted standards from ISO, EN, and IEC, and runs from September 15, 2025, to September 15, 2026, followed by an evaluation.

Ad-hoc standards licensed by the library

We are currently exploring (Fall 2025) new methods to acquire technical standards that are not available from our packages above. Stay tuned for more information soon. In the meantime, please contact Roger Reka for any urgent requests.
